IsoMax 6x6: 1-rep max retest

The results in pounds:
  • Jefferson Lift - 268.47
  • Overhead Press - 116.87
  • Drag Curl - 133.3
I did not test the Jefferson Lift last time because at that time I tested the Lateral Single Leg Deadlift, then quickly changed my mind about training that exercise and replaced it with the Jefferson Lift after testing was already done. Looking at my training log, progress in the Jefferson Lift has been decent.

My Overhead Press went up from 115.9 to 116.87. This sums up the failure of the triple wave experiment. In my April 2024 6x6 training block, my 1-rep max to start was 103.4 and by the end of the 4th week I was pressing in the 113-119 range. This was much better progress following the 6x6 protocol in Ultimate Isometrics Manual, compared to the triple wave protocol. Going forward, I'll be faithful to the book protocol. I believe progress will be better.

The Drag Curl went up from 115 to 133.3. Some of the jump in force can be attributed to lowering the bar from slot 9 to slot 8, which lengthened the biceps and allowed the muscles of the upper back, lats, and abs to contribute even more force. I see some debate online over the effectiveness of the Drag Curl as a dynamic exercise for biceps isolation and development. However the isometric version works as a compound exercise rather than an isolation exercise. I've found it adds more explosion to chin up and pull ups.
